Queercore Talk at the ICA London

Last week, the Institute of Contemporary Arts (ICA) in London hosted a screening of short films produced in the 1980s by Ashley Hans Scheirl and Ursula Pürrer. These works blend DIY cinema, performance art, punk soundtracks, and queer semiotics to construct imaginative fantasy worlds that confront bourgeois norms and embrace sexual multiplicity.

The screening was followed by a discussion with the artists and curator Piero Tomassoni, who contributed two essays on Austrian performance art and experimental cinema to YES & NO Kino+Film Austria. The second instalment of his essay appears in Kino+Film Austria: Opus Two, a newly released special double edition of YES & NO magazine celebrating 100 years of Austrian cinema, featuring contributions from several authors.
