Locus Incognitus
On view now: Locus Incognitus, an exhibition that brings together artists from diverse generations to meditate on hidden, imagined, and elusive places — terrains that resist mapping, yet persist in memory and vision. These are not conventional landscapes, but spaces of projection and return, shaped as much by longing as by observation.

Quayola, Storm #01_K22M1_02792, 2022
Ranging across drawing, collage, photography, sculpture, and digital forms, the works unfold as fragments of an uncharted atlas — personal geographies where architecture dissolves into dream, and topography becomes narrative. Each work reveals a place that may not exist, yet insists on being seen — a site where the act of looking becomes a form of passage into the unknown.

Locus Incognitus takes the viewer on a journey permeating the entire exhibition space, beginning with fantastical and dream-like maps and landscapes, that become increasingly unsettling as one approaches the main viewing room, where seemingly joyous yet sinister scenes inspired by medieval bestiaries and books of hours are in dialogue with works drawing from Dante, Goya, and Friedrich, as well as cinema and contemporary folklore.

Ubaldo Bartolini, Andare per l’erbe, 1989
In the second room, the focus shifts to edifices and structures, featuring images that range from historical to imaginary, exploring ambiguities within the built environment and between nature and architecture.

Stefano di Stasio, Untitled, 2025
With a constellation of elusive sites and shifting perspectives, Locus Incognitus opens pathways between practices and sensibilities, revealing how disparate visions can converge to form a deeper, more layered understanding of place, memory, and imagination.
