Johan Van Mullem

Born in Isiro, Democratic Republic of Congo, 1959. Lives and works in Belgium.

Johan van Mullem paints ethereal images that reveal the core qualities of human nature and the human capacity for adaptation. He works with oil-based inks on wood boards and on canvas. While van Mullem is influenced by the haunting qualities of artworks by William Blake and Francisco Goya, he does not look to the art historical canon for guidance and instead cites artistic technique and the conveyance of emotion as his primary concerns.
